The BRIDGE initiative has unveiled its 2025 brochure, offering an in-depth overview of the ongoing progress made through EU-funded research and innovation. This updated edition highlights the initiative’s role in connecting Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe projects.
The brochure opens with a foreword from the European Commission, highlighting the strategic role of Smart Grids, Energy Storage, Islands, and Digitalisation in accelerating Europe’s energy transition. It underscores recent EU policy initiatives and research funding that support innovation and market uptake, positioning BRIDGE as a key enabler of collaboration and practical solutions in this evolving landscape.
As of 2025, BRIDGE encompasses 202 projects, including 123 active and 79 completed initiatives implemented between 2016 and 2025. These projects unite 2.063 organisations from over 27 countries, backed by €1.611 billion in EU funding. Notably, since the previous issue of the document, the initiative recorded a 10% growth in project count, further confirming the relevance and momentum of BRIDGE in advancing energy innovation.
The 2025 edition of the brochure analyses the full portfolio of BRIDGE projects, focusing on the 123 ongoing initiatives. The number of projects has increased more than eightfold since the early phase of the initiative (2016–2017), underlining the accelerating pace of collaborative energy research across Europe.
Each project entry includes a detailed factsheet outlining its context, scope, technical implementation, impact, participating organisations, and geographic reach. These factsheets are designed to inform stakeholders, industry actors, and policymakers, as well as to provide actionable insights that support the EU’s ambition for a resilient and sustainable energy future.
Beyond data and visuals, the brochure reflects BRIDGE’s core mission: fostering knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and best practices across the community. By building on lessons learned from project implementation and stakeholder feedback, BRIDGE helps address barriers to innovation and delivers coordinated, balanced recommendations to strengthen policy alignment and the uptake of advanced energy solutions.
