Work Package 1 of the MIGRATE project focused on the challenges that the massive integration of power electronics brings to power system planning, analysis, and operation. Potential challenges were identified and prioritized. Mitigation measures for the Top 5 of these challenges were developed and tested using power system simulation techniques in the RMS, EMT, and RTDS regime. Also, modifications to existing key performance indicators were proposed that help power system planners judge power system stability under high levels of PE penetration. It has been shown that e.g. grid forming control will be a key enabler for the massive integration of PE into today’s power systems and therefore a key driver for the realization of the energy transition towards a 100-% PE and low-carbon/zero-emission power system.
